A flower once grew Among the thorns and the weeds That had sprouted from A little green seed.

It popped up through the ground, So happy to be Given life and a chance To grow up and see,

The sun and the birds So bright and so free, Each living the life, They were meant to be.

As Little Flower grew, The thorns got so mad, Because Little Flower had hope, And it made the thorns sad.

Even when she was small Not yet ready to bloom, The thorns crowded 'round her And took all the room.

But the rain and the sun Helped her grow every day And though the thorns hurt her She continued to say,

"I'm glad I was given My one chance to grow." She pushed up even harder But the weeds kept her low.

She began to grow sideways, Looking for the right way, And those thorns tried to trick her And told her each day,

"Oh, Little Flower, You're on the right path, Just keep growing that way, Don't even look back."

"Funny," she thought, "I don't see the sun. This can't be the way. Now, look what they've done."

And as she decided There was no way to fight, A girl came by and saw her Who was all dressed in white.

The little girl knelt down And closely peered in Through the weeds and thorns She spied the flower within.

She said, "Oh, Little Flower, So sweet and alone, I'll go get my mother And we'll take you home."

The mother then came With the girl by her side And they cleared the thorns Till it was just enough wide,

To scoop up the flower, Roots and all, And bring her home, To grow big and tall.

They came to the yard, Little Flower looked around, So many colors and shapes Of flowered friends she found.

Each day with the sun She woke up and grew Thinking now and again About the thorns she knew.

She could never forget, No, it would never be, Her alone with the flowers For she would always see,

The only family she had Were the pitiful thorns, "I'll never forget. Oh, why was I born?"

She felt so angry Like never before, And she started to wilt, Her petals fell to the floor.

Just then the girl Who was all dressed in white, Came to check on her flower, And oh what a sight.

She sighed deeply And said, "Oh, my. My poor flower is wilting And soon she will die."

She reached down and spoke In her childlike way, "Little Flower, life was new, When I planted you that day.

I picked you up from the thorns And planted you here, Now the least you can do Is to show me you care.

All I ask of you Is a simple request, Remember you're beautiful And bloom like the rest."

That made Little Flower Take notice and think, She looked at the girl, Stood tall and winked.
